The Market
Fraserburgh is the most successful port in the UK in terms of nepthrops landings. It has two of the most up to date markets in the UK, completely chilled capable of maintaining a temperature of one degree centigrade. This allows landing of fish over a 24 hour period, seven days per week with the fish being kept in prime condition for the sales that take place at a later period.
The very successful summer and autumn squid fishery takes place a few miles from the port and vessels are choosing to land through Fraserburgh Fishmarket. Fraserburgh Harbour operates two of the most up to date fishmarkets which are completely chilled and capable of maintaining a temperature of +1ºC. This allows whitefish/nephrop landings to take place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week whilst keeping the fish in prime market condition. Fraserburgh is one of the few ports in the UK who operates a fish auction 6 days a week to accommodate all sectors of the industry.
Crabs – The harbour houses a number of full time crab fishermen who operate January to December. The vast majority of crab landed is trucked to markets in England with the balance processed locally.
Fraserburgh harbour and bay are designated and approved pelagic landing areas. Large quantities of herring and mackerel are landed during the season with demand coming from local processors as well as continental buyers.
Transportation from local hauliers, fuel, water and ice, and other services are always available.
