On 11/11/11 Richard Lochhead visited the Port to confirm the award of grant of £7.57m to be used in the deepening of the North Harbour. George MacRae said the award was 'very significant', adding 'The Commissioners see it as a further example of the committed support of the administration for the fishing industry and an important rural community so dependent on fishing. The work involved has been placed to tender with five separate contractors, the appointment of the successful tenderer scheduled to be 9th March 2012 with work estimated to commence as soon as possible therafter
The Commissioners at their Monthly Meeting in October 2010 confirmed their intention to diversify into the renewable energy market. Two sites have been identified as suitable for the operation of Wind Turbines and now a specialist company has been appointed to supervise all the necessary processes of planning. There is also a plan to develop a base for the emerging renewable sector - believing the harbour in Fraserburgh could be a major focal point for the operating and maintenance of vessels and supplies in their support of the massive proposed £6billion development off the Moray coast. At a special meeting of Fraserburgh, Peterhead and Aberdeen port authorities held in March 2011, chaired by Maggie McGinlay of Scottish Enterprise, the North East Renewables Group was formed with a view to developing port activities linked to the emerging construction, operation and maintenance of a reportedly huge offshore renewables market
At the Annual Meeting of the Commissioners in January 2012 Peter Bruce was re-appointed Convenor, George Sutherland MBE, Alistair Bruce and Jackie Tait resigned from the Board, George, having served as a Commissioner for some 38 years, was replaced by Derek Bond, who immediately accepted the role of Finance Convenor in place of Stuart Gordon who will continue as a Commissioner - new appointees in addition to Derek Bond are Mark Robertson and Adam Tait
